What is Success…?

How do you define Success…?

And most importantly, are you a successful person?

Do you relate success with your job title, the size of your bank balance or the schools or college you are sending your children to?  Or the five-star hotels you are able to afford?

A mediocre would definitely define success in terms of money. The Oxford dictionary defines success as, “The accomplishment of an aim or purpose.”

We all define success differently.Your idea of being a success might be different from mine.

So, the first thing you need to do in order to be successful in life is to decide. What success means to you as an individual. Never mind what it means to others, but what it means to you?

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.– Albert Schweitzer

For me, Success is happiness- the feeling of peace and tranquility.

A successful life is one that’s lived through following your own dreams rather than blindly following someone else’s path.

Success is living each moment fully and not worrying about what future has in store for you.

Making people around you happy and be a source of happiness in someone else’s life is a success too.

Having a loving family and Spouse is success.

Staying positive in negative times is successs.

Making a difference in a world can also be described as a success.

Having the ability to laugh and more often is a success.

Enjoying simple things in life,  for example eating pizza with friends, or watching a movie together can be a source of immense happiness, you don’t necessarily have to aim big to achieve success.

Your ability to compensate and enjoy simple things to the fullest is actually the SUCCESS

Sleeping well without having any worries and grudges is success.

Some of the world’s most accomplished people have also shared their experiences and their idea of achieving success.

Now let’s see what their idea of success is.

  1. Success in my mind is the ultimate success which will achieved once we are out of this world. After leaving this dunya, the real winner will be the one who is excitedly welcomed in the akhirah, whose not alone in the grave his best companion Quran is with him, whose soul will be welcomed at every sky by the angels, who will confidently answer the questions asked by the munkar baker, angels in the grave, who will be told that now rest and sleep till the day of judgement comes and who will be shown the gardens of Jannah as his ultimate resort where he will live ever after and where there will be no fear of the future neither they will be in despair,
May Allah make us one of them Aameen.

  2. Well said.. and being Muslims we all are continuously working hard to gain Allah’s Pleasure in all that we do in this dunya n gain the ultimate success in the Aakhirah i.e. Jannah 🙂

  3. You are right in saying that success is a state of mind. But i think success should be viewed as more of a braoder term. One definition cannot fit all phases of life. It can vary for my personal life and professional life. It can be different when seen from my viewpoint or my kids’ opinion for me or my husband’s thoughts of how successful i am. It really is a relative and unlimited term.

  4. Sure success comes at different levels but most importantly true success is when we are granted paradise. May Allah gives us the good in this life and the next. Ameen

  5. Indeed. my success may be different from others simply because we have different dreams. I am with you when you said success is happiness. Many people will see fame and fortune as success. But those doesn’t really mean anything if you aren’t happy.

  6. Yea, success is a simple affair for me alhamdullilah and I love your post because it helps many ponder. It’s also a wake up call to give thanks and stop taking things for granted. Masha’Allah, excellent.

  7. This was a nice post. Success can often come in small compartments reminding us that life is so vast and we are living each day in gratitude. Thank you for this wonderful post.

  8. Loved the post, I think as a Muslim if we try to be a success in our deen, faith and how we live our life to please Allah than the worldly success will come easily. (www.spicyfusionkitchen.com)

  9. Well Success, as you defined comes with daily acts of greatness but here it is related to happiness, it can also be enjoyed after a heart pouring tears in sujood.
or for a short span you reached your mark, just found success, next day it starts appearing small.
The toppers will soon be disclosed on the day of judgement.
    pray to be among them.
    Ameen

  10. It was a good read Saima. I believe there is no specific definition of success. Anyone can be successful and in any way. Money doesn’t really matter to define success but unfortunately that is how it is defined in our world.
